ATHLONE
Athlone is a 8 year old, 17.1H, OTTB gelding. He came off the track in 2019 and competed in the 2019 RRP with me, an adult amateur, where we finished 17th overall in both dressage and eventing. Since then Athlone has competed at the novice level and schooling well above that at home. He frequently scores in the 20s and it’s usually a shock if he scores above a 30. His personal best, with a professional, is a 21 and a 26 with an amateur both at novice. He’s been stopped by multiple dressage judges who raved about him and had one say that she and scribe both wanted to ride him. He most recently ran novice at Winona HT 2022 and finished on his dressage score for a second place finish and TIP reserve champion. He is qualified for 2022 AECS.
He is a big powerful jumper that can jump almost anyone out of the tack; he does best with larger fences to keep his attention. He has plenty of scope and is brave to fences. He does all 3 Phases in a micklem with a basic snaffle. He is solid WTC, auto changes when jumping, and started on basic lateral movements. He can be quirky both under saddle and on the ground so he does need a confident experienced rider. He is the perfect mount for an experienced rider who has already been through the levels and is looking for their next top horse. He does best in a 6 day a week program with consistent showing.
It’s frequently joked that he will have a massive cheering section when he runs around his first 5*. Trust me when I say this is a very hard one to let go and one that I have been dragging my feet to list! Many tears will be shed when he steps onto the trailer so excellent showing home is required, we are looking forward to watching him dominate the upper levels with his new rider!
X-rays are on file and extensive video of all 3 phases available for serious inquires.
Listed for upper mid 5 figures, potentially negotiable for serious buyers.
SPIRIT
Spirit (JC: that’s the spirit)
Spirit is a soon to be 3 year old 16.2h (approx) unraced TB gelding. Not sure where to start with him because he has so many amazing features, I apologize in advance that this will be a long one! Firstly this guy is BIG he is still a complete baby but he looks like he’s 6 or 7! He has not been sticked yet and 16.2 is probably a low conservative estimate but he has a lot more growing left to do. So if you don’t want a giant perfect gorgeous baby then this one is not for you haha!
It’s hard to say what is better, his looks or his personality. He’s the type of horse that lets you love on him all day. My non-horsey husband has been going down to the barn at nights to sit in his stall and love on him. He isn’t mouthy at all and lets you wrap your arms around his head and cuddle him. He loves being kissed on the forehead and just leans into the love. You can definitely tell this guy was well loved with his track connections and was loved on frequently.
He is very quiet and easy to handle around the barn and leading in and out from the pasture. He doesn’t get pushy at all and will stop and wait for you to do what ever you need to. He stands quietly on the cross ties for being groomed, tacked and blanketed. He is the horse that I pull out to ride with friends, he stands quietly in the middle while you chat and has no problem randomly starting or stopping. I had to get off really quick during a ride and run into the barn for something. I just tossed the reins to my friend who was on her horse and he just stood like a perfect gentleman until I got back. He’s still learning to stand still at the mounting block and can sometimes walk off once mounted, he will just need someone with patience to teach him he needs to stand still. Under saddle he starts off light and responsive to the aids. He’s a little bit more on the go side but not something I consider forward. He is light in the bridle and already starting to figure out how to accept the connection and go into a frame. Once he gets tired or after the basic warm up he does become more of a slight kick ride and it does help to have a stick or a bit more leg to keep him working. The more tired he is the more of a kick ride he becomes. He picks up his right lead canter on queue but it does take a few attempts to get his left lead, again he’s still super young and will learn but just something he will need to work on in the future. Please note he has not and will not be started over fences or poles until he grows up a bit more so pictures or videos over fences will not be available. I strongly feel this guy has a great competitive career in his future and if started slowly and correctly he can go in any direction and absolutely dominate the competition.
I’ve hauled him off sight to a near by indoor and he was fantastic, he stood quietly to be racked up and just walked around the arena and looked at everything. The only thing he twitched at was the dirt being kicked up and hitting the aluminum doors, even that was minor and couldn’t help but laugh. My friend said he was significantly quieter in the arena than some of their older school horses! He loaded and unloaded onto the trailer easily and stood patiently on the trailer while we rode another horse after. I have to keep reminding myself that he is a baby because it’s very easy to forget! The only time he even remotely acts like a baby is when he really wants to play with another horse in the field. He loves having a friend and would love his own turn out buddy or buddies to play with. He’s middle to lower end of the pecking order though he could annoy an older/grumpier type of horse.
I really could go on for hours on how great he is, He’s one I have been seriously considering keeping long term! Trust me when I say I won’t be upset if this one hangs around for a while! He is suitable for an intermediate and up rider who is comfortable and confident enough to bring up a young horse. He is not suitable for a beginner, inexperienced or timid rider.
He is located in Columbia Station Ohio and listed for $7,250.
CHURRO
Churro (JC: Churro)
Churro is a soon to be 3 year old 16h unraced TB gelding. This is the quietest and easiest horse to handle with impeccable stall, field and basic handling manners. I personally feel anyone can lead him in and out of the field or move him around the barn. He stands quietly in the cross ties for blanketing, tacking and grooming. He is the complete bottom of the pecking order in the field and prefers to stand off by himself. He is not the type of horse that wants to run and play with babies, he prefers to stand with his hay bag and be out of the drama. He can be turned out by himself with no other horses in sight or in a large herd. He is one of the horses that is very easy to forget that he is in the barn. People keep asking me if I’m sure he’s a baby because he is just so well mannered. My horses have been inside for the last week due to ice and while everyone else is starting to lose their marbles a bit, he is as quiet as he’s ever been! He’s not one that I feel needs to get outside everyday to keep him sane. I absolutely love having this horse in the barn and do not mind him hanging around for a while!
For his first ride with us we hauled him offsite to a nearby indoor arena. He stood quietly on the trailer by himself for an hour while we rode another horse then came out with zero spook, he acted like this was his daily routine! Undersaddle he is a very light responsive ride and can get forward along the straight aways. He went quietly in a basic snaffle and immediately responded to leg pressure. We quietly worked on serpentines and changing of directions to get him to settle his tempo and he did great once he under stood the assignment! He did get quick when asking for the canter but after letting him settle he collected on the short ends and moved nicely forward on the straight sides. Since he is a very responsive forward ride he will require and intermediate and up rider working in a consistent program. He is not suitable for a timid or inexperienced rider or a rider that grabs with the leg when uncertain. This guy has no limitations for a future career and would do extremely well in any discipline! Personally I feel he would do extremely well in the jumper or eventing world once he finishes growing! Please note he has not and will not be started over poles or fences until he grows up a bit more so videos over fences will not be available.
I’ve said it before but I just love having this horse in the barn and have no problem him staying long term, he is so easy with everything and a perfect gentleman it’s easy to forget he’s just a baby. He is going to absolutely love having a career and someone to love on him daily! He’s one that I can’t wait to follow his career, his person is going to be extremely lucky.
He is located in Columbia Station Ohio and listed for $6,750.
